My early years at Worcester Academy were not easy. I had gone through several surgeries with an unusual knee injury missing two years of sports. Coach G believed in me before I even believed in myself. He made a huge impact on my baseball career and my life in general. Coach G made me a better man and taught me valuable lessons. Another thing that stands out about him is he was always smiling no matter what was going on. He was always positive and had a smile on his face.

We wish we could be there for Barbara’s last swim meet in the new pool however we want to congratulate Barbara on her well deserved retirement. What a fitting tribute to celebrate in the McCabe Pool that Barbara dreamed about for decades. Barbara made a huge difference in our son’s life; instilling the importance of hard work (grit) , discipline and encouraging students to set goals and meet them. We are forever grateful for Barbara ‘s dedication, talent in making a difference in students lives. Her career has touched so many lives for generations to come. Congratulations Barbara on your retirement.

In honor of Delilah Cioffi - n honor of Delilah Cioffi for creating NISHL — a league that has been truly life-changing for my eighth grader. For the first time, my daughter feels like she genuinely belongs, like she matters, and like she is part of something bigger than herself. The environment of kindness, encouragement, and true teamwork that Delilah has helped build has given her confidence both on and off the ice. Watching Delilah lead with humility and compassion has shown these girls what it means to lift one another up. Because of NISHL, my daughter not only found a place to play the sport she loves. She found her voice and her belief that she, too, can make a difference.

In honor of Delilah Cioffi

Delilah has made such a difference volunteering to help many girls with both empowering young women to support each other and teaching important life and hockey skills. We wanted to acknowledge the positive influence she is and difference she is making for many girls in many communities!

In honor of Kelly Wolosz, for being an incredible co-advisor, a role model for our freshmen advisees (along with all her students), and always offering her honest insight and perspective. She sets the standard everyday and I'm so thankful for her!

Alana and our son, Paul ’24, both loved everything about WA — the traditions, the teachers & coaches, the friendships, and the sense of belonging. WA will always hold a special place in our hearts.

There are coaches who teach you to swim, and then there are coaches who teach you how to live. For me, Ms. Gould has been both. As my swimming coach, she didn’t just push me to work hard; she showed me the deep personal satisfaction that comes from giving my all. From the rigors of practice to the hilariously memorable moment she taught me how to shave at 17, she has shaped me with equal parts tough love and genuine care. The spirit she instilled in me will carry far beyond the pool. Forever thankful.

Kelly Rizy has been a staple at Worcester Academy. As Director of Health Services and as a nurse, she helped guide the academy through a global pandemic while keeping life on campus as normal as possible for the students and faculty. For those of us who have had students living on campus, she is the person who cares for our kids, when we can’t be there to care for them ourselves. And she does it with the same love and attention that we would give them, ourselves. Kelly, thank you for caring for our most prized possessions, as if they were your own.

I came to WA as a PG from Worcester public schools. Mr. Hughes taught me how to not just read words, but how to read thoughtfully and critically and truly engage with the text. Mr. Whittemore taught me how engage with physics not just as an esoteric set of rules, but as an explanation for the real world dynamics happening all around us. Just two of the many excellent teachers we were blessed to have at WA.

Ms. Gould was always nice to me during my time at WA. As an international student, Ms. Gould made my WA experience feel like I was at home! During my last year at the Hilltop (2016), I needed a camera, so I came to Ms. Gould with a proposal: I could edit and clean all the school pictures she would frequently take, and in exchange, she would give me one of her old cameras. She agreed. I would come into her office during my free blocks and get to work. After a few weeks, I had a camera! Happy retirement, Ms. Gould!!
