WA kind of saved my life by giving me a 2nd chance. I'd been asked not to come back to a day school, St. Lukes in Wilton CT run by a hateful, racist headmaster I had attended despite not failing any class.
I actually contemplated and "rehearsed" suicide and hid this from my parents until they finally found the letter asking me to go elsewhere.
They quickly found WA, which accepted me. I did fairly well, finishing 23 out of 120 in my class, participating on the debate team, working on the Vigornia, submitting a story to the Lance that was chosen and winning the Dexter Prize. I intend to leave my collection of Hollywood memorabilia to the Academy, hoping they will put it into Warner Theater's lobby in a case and I will leave a substantial endowment along with this.

It’s not much (that SMU tuition is not going to pay itself..), but I have been reflecting on how grateful I am for how WA managed learning and school attendance and even activities during the 2020-21 school year. You took safety seriously while still maintaining high standards for learning, academic performance, and accountability. It was such a hard time for kids (and all of us of course) but I have a very clear sense of how my daughter benefitted from her education at WA, especially as I read articles about how even smart kids can’t read whole books, or don’t show up to class, or can’t have conversations with adults. You kept everything going, and our kids are better for it. So thank you.
