Ms. Gould was always nice to me during my time at WA. As an international student, Ms. Gould made my WA experience feel like I was at home! During my last year at the Hilltop (2016), I needed a camera, so I came to Ms. Gould with a proposal: I could edit and clean all the school pictures she would frequently take, and in exchange, she would give me one of her old cameras. She agreed. I would come into her office during my free blocks and get to work. After a few weeks, I had a camera! Happy retirement, Ms. Gould!!

WA kind of saved my life by giving me a 2nd chance. I'd been asked not to come back to a day school, St. Lukes in Wilton CT run by a hateful, racist headmaster I had attended despite not failing any class. I actually contemplated and "rehearsed" suicide and hid this from my parents until they finally found the letter asking me to go elsewhere. They quickly found WA, which accepted me. I did fairly well, finishing 23 out of 120 in my class, participating on the debate team, working on the Vigornia, submitting a story to the Lance that was chosen and winning the Dexter Prize. I intend to leave my collection of Hollywood memorabilia to the Academy, hoping they will put it into Warner Theater's lobby in a case and I will leave a substantial endowment along with this.

In honor of Barbara Gould

There are coaches who teach you to swim, and then there are coaches who teach you how to live. For me, Ms. Gould has been both. As my swimming coach, she didn’t just push me to work hard; she showed me the deep personal satisfaction that comes from giving my all. From the rigors of practice to the hilariously memorable moment she taught me how to shave at 17, she has shaped me with equal parts tough love and genuine care. The spirit she instilled in me will carry far beyond the pool. Forever thankful.

In honor of Delilah Cioffi - n honor of Delilah Cioffi for creating NISHL — a league that has been truly life-changing for my eighth grader. For the first time, my daughter feels like she genuinely belongs, like she matters, and like she is part of something bigger than herself. The environment of kindness, encouragement, and true teamwork that Delilah has helped build has given her confidence both on and off the ice. Watching Delilah lead with humility and compassion has shown these girls what it means to lift one another up. Because of NISHL, my daughter not only found a place to play the sport she loves. She found her voice and her belief that she, too, can make a difference.

I came to WA as a PG from Worcester public schools. Mr. Hughes taught me how to not just read words, but how to read thoughtfully and critically and truly engage with the text. I attended WA in 1972 as a post graduate student/athlete. At that time more athlete than student. I participated on the Men's Basketball team. During that time I was very young and immature and my development as a "real" student/athlete. People like Chet, Doc Samko,, Ed Cannon, Tom Connor Ruth Neal, Johnny Ricciardi, Bob Hawkes, Tom Blackburn etc. held me accountable to my decisions and behaviors. That has been instrumental in my future successes in both Athletics (Assumption & professional baseball) and business. For all this, I am extremely grateful to the WA tradition.

It’s not much (that SMU tuition is not going to pay itself..), but I have been reflecting on how grateful I am for how WA managed learning and school attendance and even activities during the 2020-21 school year. You took safety seriously while still maintaining high standards for learning, academic performance, and accountability. It was such a hard time for kids (and all of us of course) but I have a very clear sense of how my daughter benefitted from her education at WA, especially as I read articles about how even smart kids can’t read whole books, or don’t show up to class, or can’t have conversations with adults. You kept everything going, and our kids are better for it. So thank you.
